ENRICHING THE LIVES OF CHILDREN AND ADULTS WITH DISABILITIES THROUGH DANCE AND MUSIC

Samantha

My daughter Samantha has Kabuki Syndrome; she lives with physical and intellectual disabilities. Samantha joined Dance Ability over 2 years ago, and during this time I have watched her laugh and smile with delight whilst she dances. I believe her participation in this weekly dance session is not only a form of therapy, but also a chance for Samantha to socialise with other ‘special needs’ children and adults giving her an understanding that she is not alone in this world with her physical and intellectual challenges.

Samantha loves and looks forward to her dancing lessons with the Dance Ability team of Lucy, Annie, the marvelous group of volunteers, and the other “Dance Ability” children and adults.

At the annual dance Ability concert I watch Samantha and all the other Dance Ability participants “SHINE” as they are centre stage dancing. The smiles on their faces bring tears of happiness to all in the crowd watching, consisting of family, friends, sponsors, volunteers and even media.

Dance ability you have given Samantha and our family enormous happiness.

Toby

Danceability has been the most amazing experience and it continues to inspire our son Toby He comes home after every class with a big smile on his face feeling very proud of himself. The warmth and care of the instructors and the love that circulates each class, takes our son one step forward to true independence.

Our son Adam who is 7 with Down Syndrome joined Danceability when it was just in it's humble beginnings. Adam always enjoyed music however with Danceability he has been given the opportunity to develop what appears to be a natural desire to perform.

He loves the stage and we cannot speak highly enough of Annie, Lucy and the terrific volunteers who have created an environment that is safe, fun and fosters individual growth. Danceability has enabled friendships to develop and provides a place for parents to share experiences and feel proud of their children's achievements!

Thanks Lucy
